DIY Tinted Coloured Jars

Inspired by DoodleCraft's 'Blue Tinted Mason Jars' post, and Mumtastic's 'DIY: Tinted Mason Jars in Rainbow' post.

This is a fun project which is cheap and easy to do, with most of the things you need being things you will probably already have in your home.

These coloured jars are perfect for display- they can hold jewelry, bits and bobs, fake flowers - anything you want! They are a pretty addition to the home and can be made any colour to match colour schemes in your house.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 20 minutes

You will need:

• Glass jar/ Mason jar
• PVA Glue or Mod Podge Gloss
• Food colouring (this can be any colour of your choice)
• Cup
• Mixer or stirrer of some kind (I used a paintbrush)
• Baking paper
• Baking tray
• Sticky back plastic
• Scissors
• Pencil

Method:

Draw a heart on a piece of sticky back plastic, and cut it out. Then stick this heart on the inside of your glass jar. Make sure there are no air bubble and you have pressed the sticky back plastic down firmly.

Mix some food colouring with the PVA glue in a cup.

Pour the coloured glue into glass jars. Swirl the glue around the jar until all areas are covered, then pour the glue back into the paint cup.

Leave the jars to drain upside down on baking paper for about 5 minutes.

Don’t worry if lots of glue drains out – that’s normal!

After 5 minutes move the jar onto a baking tray with a new sheet of baking paper.

Bake in oven for 20 to 30 minutes on low heat.

This will dry it completely and turn it translucent!

Leave the jar to cool for up to 20 minutes. Then reach inside your jar and peel off the sticky-back plastic heart. This should leave a little clear piece of the jar in the shape of a heart.

The glue which drained out while the jars were in the oven should easily peel off, and if not use hot water to clean it off.

They should turn out looking something like this, only with the heart cut-out of one part. [Image via here]

These jars ARE NOT waterproof.
Make sure you put the jars in the oven on low heat, or this will not work.

Doodle Page!

My friend is an artistic genius.

Look what she calls a 'doodle'. I call that a work of art.

If you're bored and you don't want to do a big project, why not have a go at a 'Doodle Page'?

These are fun, and you can have a go at it no matter how artistic you are. Obviously the more creative you are, the better it will be, but the good thing about these doodles is that once you start building the doodle up it can look really good even if the individual things aren't that great.

As there are so many things on the doodle, if you make a mistake it's likely that no-one will see it.

All you need for this 'Doodle Page' is a black fineliner or multiliner of some sort, and a blank white sheet of card or paper. So you don't have to go out and buy anything special. Of course, you could always experiment with different coloured pens or paper! It's your creation after all!

If you get stuck and can't think of anything to draw, you can always have a closer look at the doodle above or you can search doodles on the internet. Another way of drawing fun doodles is if you draw a squiggle, then have to make that squiggle into something. That can be really fun too!

Luggage Tag Quotes!

This is a simple and fun craft project, which is a great budget project, as you only need two things:

• Luggage tags
• A black fineliner or multiliner of some sort (if you want to do colourful quotes you will need a few different coloured fineliners, though personally I think using black is just as effective)

Luggage tags usually cost under £2, and I assume most people already have a black pen of some kind, so the total cost for this project is just £2!

Luggage Tag Quotes can be great for putting in a scrapbook, sticking on your wall or pinboard, or sticking it on a plain notebook cover to personalise it. These luggage tags can be made as plain or as elaborate as you want - you can add boarders and doodles or just stick to plain text - it's all up to you!

For my Luggage Tag Quote, I used the famous Dr. Seuss quote from The Lorax.
"Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to change. It's not."

The luggage tags really stand out from a black background, so you could mount your Luggage Tag Quotes on a black piece of paper or card to add effect, or stick the tag in a black scrapbook.

You can also do your Luggage Tag Quotes double-sided, depending on how you want to display them and if you need to stick down one side.
